ITEMS FOR FRIDAY (posted on Saturday)
BOOKLET 1Book of folktales from Tobermory on Isle of Mull where my MacLean ancestors probably originated 9though we haven't found any genealogical evidence of this so far.
PRAYER LEAFLET
I think Tony brought me this leaflet of the Mysteries of the Rosary from a visit he paid to Fatima. It is fairly up-to-date as it included the new Mysteries of Light, introduced by Pope John Paul 11 in 2002.
BOTTLE
Even though this is made of plastic, I am calling it a 'bottle' for want of a better description. It contained environmentally friendly fluid for making corrections, usually to typed materials. With the coming of computers, with the handy delate key, correction fluid became less and less used.
BUTTON
Strictly speaking this isn't a button. It is from the point of a red umbrella I once owned. Once this button came loose, there was a hole in the top of the umbrella. This defeated the purpose as a device for keeping out all rain. However, since not a LOT of rain managed to aim itself directing into the hole, I continued to used the umbrella, until one occasion when I inadvertantly left it behind me somewhere, and I never saw it again. It is nice to at least have the little 'button'.
PACKETS X 2
These packets of Dioralyte were given to me by someone one time I had a bad dose of what I euphemistically call 'rapid ambulation', in other words, 'the trots', or even 'the runs'. The expiry date is May 1997. This makes me think they may have been out of date when I got them, which could have happened when I was on holiday in Cambodia.
CALENDAR
I got this calendar from the Nuns in Siena in Drogheda, the convent where I once aspired to join the community as a novice. 2007, the year of the calendar celebrated 800 years since the first Dominical nuns got together under the leadership of St Dominic in around 1206. 2007 is also the year I celebrated my own 70th birthday. I did a kind of performance for the local chapter of Lay Dominicans to celebrate both events using 800 golden beads.
GREEN NOTE
Note from my husband Tony who cooked my dinners all the time I was in art college. Here he is telling me that some of the dinners, which we used to free in plastic boxes, needed the addition of rice, my favoured carbohydrate.
YELLOW NOTE
This is from a TAI member asking for a copy receipt ofr her files. TAI no longer has paid members, and could almost be said to be in a long hibernation - a bit like Rip Van Winkle. (see TAI Blog)
WHITE NOTE
Some kind of shopping/reminder list.No idea of what date it could be. The reference to Chimp Research is interesting. I'm not sure why it has been ticked, unless that merely indicates that I made an effort. What I am looking for is a reference to an experiment I heard about in the context of someone saying how unhealthy apartment living is for humans. According to my recollection of the story, it maintained that when a colony of seemingly well-adjusted primates were moved from their natural habitat to an apartment block, their social behavior changed and they exhibited such signs of stress and agression that the experiment which had been scheduled to last for a number of years, was terminated after a few months for the well-being of the animals. I looked again today, and I still couldn't find a reference. If anyone knows, do let me know.
CALCULATIONS
This sheaf of notes and calculations refer to the trip I took to Venice to invigilate at the Biennale in 2007
BOOKLET 2
Even the name of this booklet is evocative: Experience the 5 senses of Mull, Iona, and Ulva. It consists of lovely photos, and a consice list of places to stay and to visit. I think we visited Mull in 2008.
