A few items around 1981
BOOKMARKS
According to the small print, VAT (Value Added Tax) was removed from books, so booksellers were now encouraging people to buy and read more books. (Well they wanted them to buy the books, but I'm not so sure they cared whether people read them or not - amn't I a bit cynical)
BROCHURE
The yellow brochure, again an invitation to people to spend money, this time on a ticket for the DART (Dublin Area Rapid Tranport or is it Transit? just found out yes it is 'Transit'). Actually, the brochure does have value as it gives information about walks in the Dublin area which are within easy reach of public transport, useful information for people on a tight budget. Guides of a sort were being provided, but I doubt that this service still exists - must Google and see! Well it turns out there is now a very sophisticated website run now by Dublin Transport Office on which you can plan a walking tour. Have to say the brochure gives a lot more information, is would be a lot more encouraging to non-computer people, who might be the kind of people who would want to take walks like these.
APPOINTMENT
Not sure who in the family attended this dentist. Not me anyway. Date on the back says May 19th, 9.00 but no year is given. I'm just guessing its 1981 since it was with other items from that year.
CARD
Election material, decorated by some family member. No idea who John Horgan might be. The back of this card calls these three caballeros 'Garrett's Team'
CALENDAR
The ape at the bottom of the image comes from a 1981 calendar which has an animal picture for each month. We knew a chap who worked where these calendars were produced.
