Seachtain núa! [a new week] An mó obair [how much work] a bheith mé [will I be] abalta [able] a críochniú? [to finish]
NOTE the English translation is as much about letting readers know what I am meaning to say, as what I am really saying, my grasp of Irish not being very extensive! :-)Plastic wendy house ( poles missing)
I remember how well designed the frame of this house was. There were poles and joiners, and they were so logical that even quite a young child could assemble it themselves. And because no poles were stuck into the ground, the house was equally suitable for use indoors as well as outdoors.
Selections of pieces of unused material, some quite large pieces.
Every time I did some dressmaking, I carefully kept any reasonably sized left-over scraps. However, these pieces look more like I got them from someone else. With my 'poverty script', I very much doubt that I would have miscalculated the material need to this extent. Usually, it was the other way - I reduced the recommended yardage on the premise that 'they always overcalculated'. Sometime it was I who made the miscalculation, resulting in me have to make joins where none were intended, or to use a 'false hem'. I wonder if all these dressmaking skills will totally disappear.

2 x brown leather schoolbags
I don't have anything like the same urge to hold on to these schoolbags, though no doubt they also are filled with memories.
I do remember where they came from. There used to be a man on a bicycle who called weekly door-to-door offering shoe-repairs. One September he said he could get strong leather schoolbags to order. The leather certainly was strong, and lasted many years. The thread got progressively weaker and the bag on the right is actually held together with large blanket pins.
2 x pairs black ankle-boots
Again, here are items that surely contain memories - where did the owner go to? how did they feel when these boots were new? The suede boots on the right probably made a fashion statement, but they don't look very comfortable.
I'm beginning to realize that it is thing that have my memories attached that I want to keep. Interesting thought - particularly in the light that I have called this the FAMILY ARCHIVE for many years.
