MINDMAP
Mindmap of discussion of the various categories of my life when I finished NCAD June 2010. (My head is still as confused as I write this three months later.)
PACKING
Packing material from VGA lead used in NCAD exhibition. A great lead, 10 metres long, used with projection of CCTV footage from home.
MANILLA ENVELOPE
This envelope, dated July 14 1967 is from RTE. I used to be a member of their radio audience panel and they sent me comment sheets to fill in each week. The address, Homeland, Sandyford, was the caravan parked alongside the ESB station adjoining what is now the National Mint. In those days it was a big field with sheep in it who occasionally broke through the fence we erected and ate the flowers I planted to make the caravan look nice.
MORE PACKING
This very interesting shape of packing came from a bundle of black socks that Tony bought me yesterday in Marks and Spensers in Tallaght. I really like the design of it.
I also congratulate myself for disposing of it so quickly.
HANDWRITTEN LABEL
This would have been pasted to one of the large boxes in which I stored the ephemeral material which is the subject of this blog. Some of the boxes were listed. Perhaps I may find the list in due course.
Today's SECOND items:
NOTEBOOK
This belonged to Tony and dates from approximately 1965. The open page shows part of a list of the numerous Youth Hostels he had visited, and descriptions of the date stamps they used.
WAGE SLIP
This is dated November 21 1963, the day we were married, and shows that he got holiday money (Five pounds) that week, as well as his wages of twn pounds five shillings and three pence.
HOURS
This is a list of the hours Tony Spent at his second job helping a housepainter.
NOTE & LETTER AND ENVELOPE
These are dated 1981 and refer to a job Tony did as a caretaker for Dublin Corporation on behalf of a security company. On one occasion, I stood in for him, and this is the introduction letter he gave me.
INSTRUCTIONS
These are detailed instructions he gave me on what to do in any eventuality. The first paragraph is interesting, and I remember how reassuring it was for me that he was so specific. It says:
If anyone calls ther is no need to open door and you can keep front doors and both back doors bolted all the time if you wish. Use the window for conversing with strangers. On the back of the sheet it says:
God forbid but if Squatters do break in or force their way in , do not tackle them or use any physical force trying to prevent them:- Just walk out and phone Garda (999), return to footpath outside house until Gardai come. The address of the house is 3 Monasterboice Road. I wonder who lives there now.
BOOKLIST
This is a list of books dealing with the raising of MINK. Tony worked on a mink farm in Kilgobbin for a short while.
