Thursday - Second throw out

Second day of the big project - what will I call it - don't want to used a negative name - think I will call it my HISTORY-MAKING PROJECT. This arises from what I wrote in my journal today:

It is such a clever way of circumventing the Child part of my personality.

  • It honours the item
  • It gives an insight into me and why I chose to keep this item
  • It satisfies the creative part of me to be ‘making the blog entry’.
  • It records a minute part of social history.
  • Most of all, the ‘weight’ of all this value seems to have had the effect of loosening the grip these items have on my mind, or is it on my heart.
  • In a way, this consists of ‘having my cake and eating it’.

Even though the items will end up recycled and have a new identity, their old identity, and their connection to me and to my time and my life will continue, hopefully in updated format as the technology changes with the years.

Anyway, the items today are:

TWO EURO LABEL
This label is off the second hair-brush I bought recently. This is the thin one with bristles all around which is handy for turning my hair under.

GET WELL CARD
This card could be twenty years old. The sender is a friend of my aunt. I think she lived in one of the towns in Kildare county.

TWO CHRISTMAS LABELS
I suspect these are complimentary labels. I imagine I made both of them, probably because my friend May gave us a gift without a label and I wanted to put it under the Christmas tree. I wonder when did I stop having Christmas trees. One of these labels is date 1992

PINK UMBRELLA CASE
I have no recollection of having an umbrealla this colour, so maybe l lost it before I had a chance to become attached to it.

SERVIETTE ONE
This serciette reminds me of the visit to Lismore to see Gerard Byrne's work and sitting in the lovely gardens having this little lunch.

SERVIETTE TWO
The Food Gallery is quite close to NCAD, on the same side of Thomas Street, and next door to A$ Art where I get my art supplies when I need them. It was a cold wet day and the hot soup was delicious.

BUSINESS CARD
I've no idea either where I got this card for a funeral director in Amiens Street. There isn't even a note on the back of it.

COCKTAIL UMBRELLA
Not sure where I got this - could have been in my favourite ice-cream, the Knickerbocker glory.

I got the image from this website

I'm getting second thoughts about this item - its such a pretty little thing, I think I am going to rescue it and keep it after all.
